It's here! // Shop my closet on Poshmark

Tuesday, June 3, 2014

I finally got my Poshmark closet up and running! Here's a smattering of some of the things I've listed. There's a lot more to come!

I have quite a bit more listed than those, including some rad Kendra Scott jewelry. I will accept reasonable offers on some items, and I can do bundles so you can save on shipping. C'mon, don't you want to SWF me help me thin my closet? Ha. I thought so.

You have to download the app to make purchases (and to sell) but it's so worth it!|

Dresses anytime, any where // featuring Jockey Skimmies® and a giveaway

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Jockey. Tracking Pixel
/////

Having a third child has not slowed me down like I thought it would. Nearly every day, I take my brood to a park, a playground, or the children's museum. It would be so easy to just slip on a pair of yoga pants and a comfy t-shirt, but it would be so unfair to all the adorable sundresses I own. But, man, is it hard to stay modest while wearing a dress and carrying a newborn, lifting and assisting an unsteady toddler, and chasing after a high energy preschooler. And y'all know how important my modesty is to me! Ha!

My secret? Shorts. I always have shorts on under my dresses. That way if the wind blows or if my hem gets stuck under a kid that I'm hoisting up, then no worries. I used to just throw on some bike shorts, but now that Jockey has introduced Skimmies®, I can save my bike shorts for the gym. I'd say these are best described as slipshorts-- they go on like shorts but do the work of a slip.
Skimmies® come in a ton of different colors, two different lengths (short and regular), and three different kinds-- original microfiber is great for every day style, anti-static work great with slinky skirts and dresses, and wicking is great for activewear.
I like the original microfiber Skimmies® in the regular length.
You guys! I love these! Unlike bike shorts, Skimmies® are meant to be worn under clothing. That means they're lightweight, smoothing, and they're not at all bulky. The waistband and leg holes don't roll, no matter how much running, chasing, and lifting of children I'm doing. Boom! Modesty still in check!

You're dying to try them yourself now, aren't you? Well, good news! Jockey is giving away 240 pairs of Skimmies®, so be sure to leave a comment  at the bottom of this blog post telling me what you'd wear your Skimmies® under and enter the giveaway below:

a Rafflecopter giveaway Details: The giveaway will be open on Wednesday, May 28 and end Monday, June 9, 2014. 240 commenters will be selected to receive a one pair of Jockey Skimmies®. Winners will be selected by Sway Group once the giveaway closes. Jockey is responsible for prize fulfillment.

And if you'd like to win $5000 (uh, who wouldn't?!) or a virtual styling session with Rachel Zoe with a $1000 shopping spree, and other great prizes (including Skimmies®), you're invited to Seize the Day in Skimmies® by expanding your comfort zone. Every day until June 20, a fun challenge will be posted, encouraging you to try something a little daring. Today's challenge, for instance, says "Share a video of you singing a love song to someone you care about. Any song you'd like, just show some love." You can enter via Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram using the hashtag #SkimmiesPromo and tagging Jockey. I'm for sure going to do some of the challenges! I think they're going to be a riot! If you want to join me, be sure to visit http://bit.ly/SKIMMIES to learn more. Here you can find the challenge of the day, see other entries, and read the official rules. [Seize the Day!]

I'm too old to bind my feet, right?

Friday, April 18, 2014

My shoes don't fit. Again.

This makes me have the sads because here is a snapshot of all the shoes I've acquired during this pregnancy that I now fear I may never be able to wear:
[L-R: Nine West wedges via Style Encore // Tallulah lace booties // Doc Martens via PlanetShoes // TOMS x3 via Zulily // Buyamba sandals]
Aren't they wonderful?

If you've been reading this blog for a while, you may remember that when I had Jude, my feet grew half a size and I had to start from scratch in terms of shoes. I was bummed because I had some pretty great shoes, and I didn't know that feet growing permanently due to pregnancy was a thing. For the next two years, I thoughtfully rebuilt my entire shoe collection, going from a respectable size nine to a harder to find 9.5. Then I got pregnant again. And surprise, surprise... my feet grew nearly half a size again. Thankfully, since 9.5 was so hard to come by, most of the shoes I had acquired in the first Post-Pregnancy Shoe (Re)Collection Project of 2010-2012 were a size 10. But then I got pregnant again. And, lo and behold, my feet are now closer to a 10.5 (which, as you larger footed ladies know, most manufacturers don't make half sizes after size 9). As you can imagine, I do not want to start my shoe collection over again, let alone with size 11's!

I gained more than 50 pounds this pregnancy on top of the extra 10 pounds I had yet to lose from carrying Caroline, so I am just bigger everywhere, including my feet and hands (side note: my wedding rings have been in the safe for more than two years now as I'm unable to get them over my knuckle, and I already had them resized once). All this to say that I am more determined than ever to get in shape... not so my pants or rings will fit again, but rather so all my wonderful shoes will fit!

I am especially bummed because I have been wanting a pair of floral Doc Martens since middle school, and now I am the proud owner of these beauties:
My Facebook friends helped me pick these out, and I only tried them on once before my feet swelled up in my third trimester.

I first fell in love with Doc Martens because Kendra, this impossibly cool girl a couple grades ahead of me in junior high, had multiple pairs of Doc Martens, including a rad floral pair that I've been thinking about for, literally, 20 years now. And my love for them only intensified after pretty much wanting to be Rayanne Graff (without the, you know, substance abuse problems), Jane Lane, and Six who could each wear the heck out of a pair of Docs. Ah, nineties nostalgia!

And now, thanks to PlanetShoes, who I am madly in love with, my floral Doc Martens dreams have come true. Well... almost. I finally own my dream boots but (nightmare!) I can't get my fat feet into them. I've been dying to do an outfit post featuring these boots forever, but I guess for the time being y'all can use your imagination.

1. Dr. Martens 1460 floral canvas // 2. Cuyana leather tote // 3. Moorea Seal Heisenberg Hat // 4. Noonday Collection Golden Leaves Bib // 5. James Perse Kimono Dress // 6. Free People Trapeze Slip

I don't know if this outfit would be junior high Kendra approved, but I think Six would be down. Now if only I could get my shoe size down...

Adored Austin could be blogging for The Domain... but that's up to you.

Thursday, March 21, 2013

I am so excited to let you all know that I am one of three finalist to blog for my favorite shopping center in Austin: The Domain! I just held the Texas Style Council March Mixers at The Domain and had the opportunity to get to know some of the people who work at some of my favorite shops there. It goes without saying that I love The Domain, and when Simon Malls announced they'd be hiring a 40 bloggers to cover events for 40 of their major shopping centers, I knew immediately that The Domain would be receiving my application.
At the beginning of this month, I submitted this blog post for consideration. This afternoon, I was pleasantly surprised to learn via Twitter that I made it as one of The Domain's top three choices. I was not so pleasantly surprised to learn that the final choice would be left up to Facebook votes. Whoops. I should have committed the fine print to memory!

In any regard, I'd love your votes if you have a moment! Vote by clicking this Facebook link and then click on Indiana Adams (the girl who looks like me). Or if you think Charles or Tawni would be a better fit, vote for them (um, how cool would it be if they hired a guy? And I need to know what shade of lipstick Tawni is wearing in her photo. It's gorgeous!). Vote for one of us here:
[Fine print: Please note that the Facebook voting link only works from a desktop computer. It is not configured for mobile devices.]

I think The Domain could use a blogger like me. I mean... surely they'd be down with blogs like this and this, right?

Guest post: Adored Austin on Project Runway

Tuesday, September 25, 2012

Here's a little known fact about yours truly: when I was a tall, gangly dancer growing up in my unglamorous hometown in southern Indiana, I had high hopes of becoming a Rockette one day. I even formed a high-kick dance duo with my friend Amanda through our dance studio and we took our kicking routines as far as Cincinnati, Ohio. Ha!

That's why I was thrilled to be asked to write a recap post of the most recent episode of Project Runway for their official blog. For last week's challenge the seven remaining designers had to create a performance dress for the famous Radio City Rockettes. Heidi even got her amazing 39 year old legs a'kickin', too.
rockettesprojectrunway
If you haven't already, hop on over to MyLifetime Television to watch episode 10 of Project Runway. I'd love for you to check out my recap post without getting an eye full of spoilers.

Kicks and (Rhine)Stones by Indiana Adams

Nothings says New York City like the Radio City Rockettes and nothing says “good tv” like seven crazy good designers on very little sleep manipulating (and in some cases torturing) $350 worth of sparkle and shine.

Recap: Diya's Front Row Challenge

Saturday, November 19, 2011

Congrats to Diya! If you were able to make it out to her Marie Claire Front Row Challenge fashion show last Thursday, you already know that it was a huge success.

Because of all the time off I had to take in September and October, former intern Rachel and I hadn't seen each other since Austin Fashion Week. It was so nice catching up with her and brainstorming ways that we can take the Texas Style Council up to the next level next year. I'll miss her when she goes off to college next year! Here we are doing the obligatory step and repeat photo:
loftshow
Me: skirt: Langford Market (USA made)| necklace: Manic Trout (loan) | blouses: American Apparel | tights: Target | shoes: Shechelles via Savers | clutch: Texas Thrift
Rachel: dress: vintage

I really loved what I was wearing and I hope to recreate the look and photograph it better later this week (I also owe you recreated photos from the Austin Fashion Week Awards show now that I think about it!).

Since we did have quite excellent seats I was able to shoot a little video during the show. Enjoy:
I am dying over that gray fur snood in the eighth look. I'm also in love with the entire tenth outfit:

Diya did such a great job putting together the show. I think that LOFT can be a little challenging since it is a line that often screams "conservative teacher style" (not that there's anything wrong with that, mind you!), but Diya did a good job at showcasing the clothes in a fun and interesting way. My fingers are crossed that she wins the contest!

Thursday: You're invited!

Tuesday, November 15, 2011

If you've never been to a real, live fashion show, now is your chance! I am so proud of Austin's own Diya from In Her Stilletos for being one of four finalists in the Marie Claire's Front Row Challenge:
Join us at The Mohawk this Thursday night at 7pm for a free, fun fashion show. Fashion shows of this calliber are never free or open for me to invite as many people as I want, so I really, really hope you can make it. To RSVP email frontrowchallengeUT@hearst.com (just click that link, I've made it easy for you!) and tell them that Indiana from Adored Austin invited you! RSVP's must be in by noon on Thursday.

Congrats, Diya! I am so proud of you! This is such an amazing, exciting opportunity for you, UT, and our beloved city!

Five pieces you can totally thrift this fall

Saturday, August 27, 2011

[Note: this was my first commissioned piece for Lucky Magazine through the Lucky Style Collective. Look for future in-print contributions soon!]

I want to impress upon people that shopping at Goodwill doesn't mean looking like you're vying to be an extra on Mad Men or like you missed the bus to Woodstock. Here's some fresh, non-costumey, fall styles that can be found via a simple sweep through your local resale shop. Use these fall runway photos for your weekend thrifting inspiration.
pants
1. Ankle length trousers — Look for a pair in a smooth, light weight wool blend that's relaxed through the thigh but tapered at the ankle. Make them modern by hemming them two inches above the ankle like these Yigal Azouël and Zac Posen slacks.
blazers
2. Bright Blazers — Avoid basic black and opt to amp it up with a slightly oversized, double breasted blazer. The more sheen and shine, the better. For fit, find one with a length that hits between your wrists and mid-thigh. Keep it buttoned to look perfectly polished or unbutton it to show your softer side.
officedresses
3. Office Dresses — For an alternative to the typical skirt and jacket combo, try a button up dress with a nipped waist (cinch with a thin belt if necessary). To keep it workplace appropriate, choose one that falls either just above or right below the knee. Steer clear of denim weight cotton or flimsy satin-like material which wrinkles easily and looks cheap.
necklaces
4. Chunky Gold Jewelry — Check out the display case for bold 80s’s pieces. High five worthy finds include big links and huge animal heads. Paired with a silk scoop necked shirt, let your new animal friend be the icebreaker in any room.
sweaters
5. Oversized sweaters — Pick one with a cool cable-knit detail or playful contrasted buttons that's not yet pilling. Go up a size or check the men's section for one has that just the right amount of cozy.

Free People: July lookbook shot in Austin

Tuesday, July 5, 2011

There are only a couple times in my life when a flip switched inside me and I wanted to totally change up my style. The first time was after a stupid boy dumped me in college. The most recent time? Today. I just watched the Free People July lookbook, which was shot here in Austin, and I suddenly want to be all 1970's rocker/ bohemian chic:
Their July catalog looks amazing. Free People summed up Austin style quite nicely with this new collection. It's become clear to me that I need to let go of some of my boring stuff and amp it up with a few of these new pieces, pronto! Check out the full collection here and hold on to your pocketbooks! You can also download the Happen-In's song that's featured in this lookbook from the Free People blog (that's free. Bam!).

Exile in Austin

Thursday, June 16, 2011

What are you doing tomorrow night? What? Nothing? Well, gosh, do I have a recommendation for you (if you live in Austin). Get your booty down to the Mohawk to celebrate the launch of Free People's new summer video lookbook and catalog shot by Austin's own Alexandra Valenti and featuring the stylish good looks and sounds of The Happen-Ins.

Video: Innovation, UT's 2011 Apparel Design Senior Showcase

Tuesday, April 26, 2011

I had an amazing time at Thursday's UT Fashion senior fashion show. It is easily one of my favorite fashion shows every year, and I was thrilled to be given a media pass and a seat right next to the runway:

My photographer friend Peter, whom I met at last year's show shot from the photographer's pit, so he got some great shots of the entire show. See his set here. I was really impressed by most of what I saw, but by far, my favorite look was Colton Gerard's collection. I gasped when the male models walked out:

Recap: Texas 4000

Monday, April 4, 2011

It needs to be said that I did not write enough about the Texas 4000 when I did my first (casting call) post. The Texas 4000 is not a fashion event. It's so much more than that. Shannon Kintner, an Adored Austin reader and Texas 4000 rider emailed me, telling me a little more about it:
"We're a group of 47 UT students biking 4,600 miles from Austin to Anchorage, AK this summer. Every mile we ride we're all required to raise $1 that goes directly to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Research Center in Houston. We all ride for someone we know - parents, friends, uncles, cousins, teachers, friend of a friend, girlfriend's parents - who have been affected by cancer in some way. We also focus on supporting those who have fought, are fighting or who have lost someone to cancer. This is why spreading our message is so important."
The fashion show was a very small part of their fund raising efforts, and the night was a great success, bringing in over $17,000! I was so pleased to help out in a tiny way by helping to cast and coordinate the runway show. Here's some of the beautiful models I was honored to work with:
[Make-up graciously provided by Evie Evan, hair generously done by Suede Salon.]

If you'd like to make a donation to the Texas 4000, please go here.

I have a cute story: as I was outside grabbing snapshots of the models, Melissa Abrantes came up to me and said, "I promise I'm not a creeper, but I read your blog! Hi. I'm Melissa." I love meeting Adored Austin readers in the wild... seriously, it's one of my most favorite things ever, so when she introduced herself, I started doing my happy dance. She introduced me to her bike Fernando, and we had a nice time chatting about the ride. Get this, y'all: She, like some of the other riders, does not consider herself a hard-core athlete, so I have to give her kuddos for taking on such an awesome challenge. If you feel inclined to donate to the Texas 4000, Melissa is a bit short of her goal, so please consider donating to her ride (you can simply type "Melissa Abrantes" in the description field). Every little bit helps; even a $1, and they are required to raise one dollar for every mile they ride. If you think cancer sucks, make a donation and think of folks like Shannon and Melissa who are taking on this big challenge to raise awareness and money for those taking on an ever bigger challenge: fighting cancer. I donated $50 (I'll buy my flared jeans some other time); I hope others can give some, too.

Recap: StyleX

Thursday, March 31, 2011

I've had plenty of time to decompress from StyleX, but I haven't had a lot of time to go through all the footage and photos we got. Nonetheless, I wanted to go ahead and post the bits I've been able to go over.

The theme for this post is hit and miss.

On Thursday, we did a Style Hop, which was a tour around Austin to a few different shops. Hit! I failed to take an outfit picture and captured really poor sound on my video. Miss!

Friday was the first of the runway shows. I love runway shows. Hit!

Next year I'd like a little more pizazz: give me some going-out wear, dim the audience lights, and teach those musicians how to work the runway (they're obviously pretty comfortable on stage). Can I just say that I loved having the musicians as models? It made for a much more interesting and fun show than I usually see. Hit!

I totally regret what I wore, though. Miss!

blouse: thrifted (Savers) | skirt: Kenar (c/o Marshalls) | shoes: c/o ThreadSence | necklace: c/o The Jasmine Gallery | watch: thrifted Michael Kors (Goodwill)

What was I thinking?! This outfit is embarrassingly blah. I almost didn't post this photo of it due to me being afraid to admit that I failed at fashion. However, in the spirit of transparency, here it is! The good thing? It made me realize that I need to amp it up in the style department. I need to have some quality, go-to peieces that I can just grab and go for events like this. I like all the pieces individually, but together, it's just a hot mess. I should have done the blouse with trousers and wedges or the skirt with a simple, silky tank and added heels.

Saturday was the panel I was asked to speak on (title: "Technology is cool, but technology + fashion is cooler"), and I was honored to be speaking alongside folks like Kelly from The Glamourai and Devin from Lyst. Hit!

Saturday's outfit was a little better although I spent a lot more money on my dress than I should have. It's still something that I regret buying but only because I;m not a big spender. I had a 20% discount at Plain Ivey Jane, and I love the shop owner to pieces, so I bought it on a whim. The yellow stitching and the pockets really appealed to me. The detailing on the top was great-- I have never seen a dress like it. However, I think that maybe $100 is too much to spend on a day dress that, frankly, I'm likely not going to wear again. The top was ill fitting on me, but the hanger appeal was so great. Hit and miss!
stylex2

dress: Hype purchased at Plain Ivey Jane | cardigan: c/o Peacock Plume | watch: c/o TIKKR | wedges: c/o Wanted

Overall, StyleX was a hit. It was great seeing so many people come out for a first year event. I know that the organizers worked their tails off, and I'm so proud of Joah and John for that. Can't wait to see what they have up their sleeves for StyleX 2012.

Strut swap

Tuesday, March 22, 2011

I can't go to this because I have a standing commitment to my City Group on Wednesdays, but if you're not in my City Group, you should be going to this:
Strut's Facebook page will give you more information. I scored my white jeans (that fit like a dream!) from Swap.com's clothing swap at the TxSCC, so I can only imagine that you'll be able to score some sweetness at the Strut swap, too!

Casting: ATX models for Texas 4000

Hi, there! I'm helping to cast models for the Texas 4000 benefit show next Thursday, March 31st. If you'd like to strut your stuff on the runway for a great cause, come out and see me at the Bo Concept showroom this Friday.
tx4000
We are casting kind-hearted models who would be willing to walk for free to benefit the Texas 4000 which is a ride that benefits cancer research through Lance Armstrong's LIVESTRONG network.

Due to the clothing we'll be showcasing, at this time, we can only consider female models ages 15+, taller than 5'7'' and able to fit into a sample size six or below. We can't pay you, but we can promise that it will be fun and easy. However, you must be able to attend all three of the following:

Short casting call and info meeting:
this Friday, March 25th, 6 pm. Bo Concept showroom (430 W. 2nd Street).
We will simply let you know more information about the show, make sure you can walk (or give you a quick tutorial how), and take some snapshots for the boutiques. We will be choosing sixteen models.

Fittings:
completed by Tuesday, March 29th

Runway show:
Thursday, March 31st. Models must be available by 3 pm for the walk-through. The show starts at 6 pm and ends at 9 pm.

If you're interested in participating, please fill out this form:

Feel free to invite your friends if they fit the specs, too. If you're not super experienced, no problem! We're looking to fill sixteen spots.

We're also looking for a hair and make-up team that can pretty up our sweet sixteen. All inquiries can be sent to me via email. Thanks!

Drink and eat and hear me speak!

Thursday, February 10, 2011

Join me and experience my "expert advice" next Wednesday, Feb 16th for my first ever fashion pep talk! Yo, people, I am totally legit now. I speak! In public! Erg, or just come for the free wine, free cheese, shop discount, and prize pack. Those, I can promise, are going to be fabulous. Did I mention free?

Langford Market is one of my new favorite stores. One of my 30x30 dresses is from there. It's like an affordable Anthropologie 'cept with incredibly helpful and sweet salesgirls.

Recap: Rescues & Runways show by Maurices

Sunday, October 3, 2010

Like I mentioned yesterday, I loved Maurices way back in middle school and high school. It was where I'd get my Esprit tote bags and my Paris Sport Club t-shirts... the coolest of the coolest gear down in Seymour, Indiana.

The store underwent some major changes in the last ten years and I'd venture to say that the inventory now lies somewhere between American Eagle and the Heritage 1981 line at F21. Prices are still remarkably affordable, and they even have animal jewelry at the Southpark Meadows store in south Austin:

The kind folks at Maurices invited me out to check out their Austin Rescues & Runways show, a fashion show benefiting the PAWS humane society and showcasing the latest Maurices fall fashions:

I wore my long green maxi dress and a bedroom jacket that was last seen here. I added an elephant as a final touch, and truthfully, this is the best dressed I've felt all pregnancy!

Maurices kindly gifted me with a $50 gift card, and in a couple weeks I'll show off what I got. In the meantime, I am pleased to announce that this is my last maternity outfit for a while! Why? Well because yesterday morning at 3:45 a.m. I went into labor and four hours later I had birthed a healthy baby boy! More on that in the next couple of days. Thanks to everyone who sent me sweet Tweets and kind Facebook messages. We haven't come up with a name, yet, but we'll let you know when we do!

It's a feel good weekend in Austin.

Friday, October 1, 2010

And I don't just mean the weather!

Tonight there are two wonderful fashion shows going on. First is the Maurices Rescues and Runway fashion show.
maurices
I loved Maurices in middle school! I would go there to get all my Esprit gear! It, along with JC Penny's and Fashion Bug, was one of the only places to shop in my little town. I have fond memories of this store and I'm excited to check it out again for the first time in years! Additionally, I have a huge heart for the cause. I may even take these little monsters with me:
jimiandjune

A couple hours later, a little north, is the South First Fashion Show:
Mana_fashionshow_flyer-1
This one benefits Cause to Celebrate and DJ Manny, one of my favorite in-town DJ's, will be offering up tunes.

Tomorrow is Livestrong Day and Birds Barbershop (where I get my hair cut) is hosting Buzz off Cancer:

Hit up the E. 6th Birds this weekend for a free buzz cut and help set a world record for “most people to have their heads buzzed in solidarity with young adult cancer survivors”. There will be a DJ, refreshing adult beverages and fabulous prize drawings of LIVESTRONG gear for those willing to go under the clippers.
