TODAY // Free Ice Cream courtesy of 4Moms at Lick in Austin

Wednesday, August 6, 2014

Come out to Lick Ice Cream any time between 2pm- 4pm to enter to win an origami stroller from 4moms. (P.S. If you haven't seen that stroller in action, you really should. Every time I take it in and out of my car, people stop and run over to ask me about it. It's that amazing!)

Also... FREE ice cream! The first 100 people will get two scoops of their favorite sweet treat. Lucy and I will be there, and we'd love to meet you. We'll be moving to Atlanta by September first, and I'd love to meet as many of y'all as I can before we go!

RSVP on Facebook or just show up. And be sure to invite your friends! Because free ice cream, a chance to win an awesome stroller (ARV $849), and the opportunity to squeeze this munchkin. I fully expect there to be a happy line around the block, people.

Farewell Adored Austin party!

Monday, July 21, 2014

This Friday, come by the new Langford Market store and bid me adieu (or good riddance). There will be wine and sweets and I'll try really hard not to cry on your nice shirt.
Whether we're meeting for the first time or saying goodbye, I'd love to see you! Come out for this fun ladies night. Everyone is invited, it's come and go from 6-9pm, so go ahead and RSVP here. Maybe we can brainstorm and see what we should do about TxSC, too.

You're invited: Chevy Shop Social // This Thursday!

Monday, June 2, 2014

Hey, remember that time Chevy loaned me a freaking sweet CAMARO during SXSW? That was awesome. I grew up driving a Chevy, and come this Thursday I'll get the opportunity to drive another Chevy again.

Why? Well, because this city knows that if there's one thing I'm good at, it's having babies er, -- just kidding! -- it's shopping.

Yours truly was invited to be one of the Austin "digerati" to participate in Chevy Shop Social. I'll be one of the shoppers / Chevy drivers for an amazing charity event this Thursday, June 5.
Get this: I'll be given a $300 gift card courtesy of SheBuysCars.com, be put into a brand new Chevy, and I'll have two hours to spend said gift card in one of my favorite parts of town: The 2nd Street District, where I'll be buying goodies from local shops to be raffled off later that evening. I'll be Instagramming my shopping frenzy via #ChevyShopSocial @indianaadams, and all the purchases (from all the influencers and bloggers) will be raffled off with the proceeds going to some amazing Austin charities. Here's my favorite part: raffle tickets for the prizes are just $1.00 each, meaning you could be walking away with a local treasure for just a buck! 100% of the proceeds benefit I Live Here I Give Here and HAAM. And bonus: Chevrolet is sponsoring the event and will be match all donation given that night, up to $5000.

And guess what? You're invited to the big shin dig that evening and it's absolutely free to attend! In addition to the raffle, there will be food trucks (including Hat Creek! Mmmm, burgers...), live music, a Corvette photo booth, and a fleet of brand new Chevy vehicles to check out. I've been told that it will be family friendly, so my whole brood will be there. I would love for you to join us. It's going to be a great way to get out to enjoy the the city and to support some deserving local charities. Plus I hear that the host venue, Getaway Motor Club, is pretty cool, too.
Not local to Austin? No worries. Be sure to follow our #ChevyShopSocial hashtag on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook to keep up with our adventure.

WHAT: Chevy Shop Social
WHEN: this Thursday, June 5 // 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm (raffle at 8:30)
WHERE: Getaway Motor Club, 3700 Thompson Street
COST: free to attend, $1.00 raffle tickets, food and craft beer available for purchase

For more information, check out SheBuysCars.com, the generous sponsor of this great event.

Tomorrow: Meet us at the Austin Zoo

Friday, May 30, 2014

Chris has been gone all week for work, but he returns tonight, thank goodness. This has been my first time all alone with all three kids, and I was really nervous. We made it, though! Everyone survived, the house is still standing, and we all still love each other. Success!

Since Chris will be traveling a lot for work for the rest of the calendar year, one piece of advice we got over and over again was to make time to reconnect as a family; we were challenged to do something special together when Chris returns, instead of just trying to get house stuff done or veg out on our devices. I'm working on making an Austin summer fun list, and one of those things was to take the family to the Austin Zoo & Animal Sanctuary. Jude loves it, but hasn't been in a while, and Caroline has never been. I'm excited that the Austin Zoo is having a really fun event tomorrow. We plan to be there and want to encourage others to go, too!
KIND and Sprout are hosting family-friend events all across the country to celebrate kindness as part of its Kindness Counts Initiative. They're calling it Operation Kind Kids:

Tomorrow they're hosting an Operation Kind Kids at the Austin Zoo. There will be a collage wall, a station to create an acts of kindness tracker, and kids will be invited to pick a flower and share it with someone special. Since we had the Austin Zoo on our summer fun list and because we wanted to go out and enjoy the city together as a family to reconnect after Chris' week away, we thought this could be a great thing to go to together. I'm always scheming up ways to meet new people, and it would be great to meet you and your family, so I thought I'd share. The Adams family will be there in full effect. Hopefully you can make it, too!

Info:
Admittance will be free with the cost of museum admission ($9/adults, $6/children)

WHEN: Saturday, May 31 from 10:00am – 1:00pm
WHO: Geared toward parents and children ages 2-6, but all are welcome
WHERE: Austin Zoo & Animal Sanctuary (plaza behind the zoo gift shop)

Already! Austin Fashion Week 2014

Monday, April 28, 2014

Some people mark the passing of the year by the holidays or their birthdays. Me? I seem to mark it by the arrival of Austin Fashion Week. I can't believe it's already that time of year again!
Shortly after I started Adored Austin, I attended and covered the very first Austin Fashion Week for my humble fashion based blog, and it has been a trip watching AFW grow, mature, and evolve over the last six years. We were babies together, and every time AFW rolls around, it reminds me that Adored Austin has been here for another year. I've changed this space a lot since it's inception and write less about style and local fashion happenings (I write less, in general), but nonetheless, I love being a part of the AFW festivities and adore seeing my city's most stylish residents out in all their finery.

I'll be at the Austin Fashion Awards Show Finale on Saturday, because it's always my favorite thing to attend. Surprisingly, I've been nominated for one of the Trailblazer Awards along with nine incredible individuals who are truly and earnestly (and legitimately!) cornerstones in the Austin fashion world. I feel like the awkward fourth grader amongst the cool high school seniors, being named as one of the finalists. Nonetheless, it's a genuine honor to be named among people like Eve Nicols of UT, Elizabeth Gibson of Eliza Page, Linda Asaf, and Stephanie O'Neill of Estilo.

Although Adored Austin was one of the earliest local blogs doing outfit of the day photos, street style photography, and maintaining a calendar of fashion and shopping events, I'm most proud of what I've accomplished in this city via Texas Style Council. In 2009, I threw the first TxSC event during SXSW and in five years have since cultivated it from a small brunch to a full blown three day fashion and style-centered social media conference boasting 400 annual attendees from around the globe. I know! It's unbelievable to me, too! It's sincerely an honor to be recognized for my work. My absolute favorite thing about doing Adored Austin and Texas Style Council is taking online connections and turning them into deeper offline connections, through mentorships, friendships, and partnerships. People like Elizabeth and Stephanie (above) were a couple of the earliest sponsors of the Texas Style Council in its very first year and supported my local blogging efforts when Adored Austin was just starting out. I am so grateful for the local fashion community and I admire anyone who can create and curate such beautiful things so people like me can consume and share them with others. Austin Fashion Week will always be one of my favorite local happenings.

Oh, gush! I could go on, but I'll save some for Monday, when I do my AFW recap post.

Be sure to check out the entire Austin Fashion Week schedule here. If you'll be at the Awards Show, let's sit together, mmmmkay?

Now if only I weren't in a conundrum about what to wear! It's a red carpet event with an after party. Yikes! I'll be there, but I'm not sure what to clad my post-pregnancy body and feet into. I've got a few days to figure it out, though!

It's Scarf Week at Purse & Clutch // Let's meet!

Tuesday, December 17, 2013

This graphic says it all:
Well, almost. My sweet friend Jen, the owner of one of my favorite fair trade minded shops, Purse and Clutch, is currently holding scarf week in her shop (both online and at her holiday pop-up shop on 2nd Street). These scarves, handcrafted by women who are paid a living wage in Cambodia, make excellent Christmas gifts. You did know there's only seven shopping days left until Christmas, right? (I see you freaking out a little bit there!). Here are the deets:

  • During scarf week, scarves are two for $60 with code "SCARFWEEK" online (regularly $36 each).
  • Every scarf purchased in the shop gets an entry to win either this Ikat Satchel (swoon!) or this new style of Leather Pouchette.
Additionally, tomorrow night (Wednesday, December 18), from 5pm- 8pm will be a sip and shop co-hosted by yours truly and the oh-so kind Kristen, of the famed The Mrs. and The Mama blog.  There will be Sweet Tea Vodka cocktails on hand, and Jen has stocked the shop full of amazing, affordable, fair trade goodies that will be sure to fulfill those last minute gifts you're scrambling to find. Join us at 237 W. 2nd Street tomorrow night. (Park either in City Hall parking or in AMLI parking garage at 2nd and Lavaca). I would love to meet you! I'll even let you squeal at my very large baby bump.
This buffalo plaid black and white scarf is my favorite. Isn't it lovely?

Texas Style Council 2013: It's On!

Monday, May 6, 2013

We're doing it!
Screen shot 2013-05-05 at 11.41.59 PM
You know, after last year's conference I wasn't convinced that there was a need for another Texas Style Council symposium, but after evaluating a lot of the feedback I got from last year's event and endeavoring to make subsequent TxSC conferences markedly different, I think this is going to be our best year, yet!

Registration opened today, and we're having twice a many tickets available and making sure that any woman (blogger or not) can get something out of this conference. We're calling it TxSC Summer School, and the focus is on learning. We've scrapped the panel / audience format in lieu of hosting two days of smaller, intimate, hands-on / face-to-face classes. [more info on our changes from 2012 here]

Our teachers are phenomenal. Our keynote presenters are Emma & Elsie from A Beautiful Mess, plus a few other familiar faces:

Screen shot 2013-05-05 at 11.51.35 PM

If you are a woman who has a lifestyle, fashion, DIY, or mom blog -or- if you own a business that caters to women-centric industries, you will get a ton of bang for your buck at TxSC Summer School. Our full line-up is on its way. In the meantime, take advantage of our early bird discount and register soon. Tickets sold-out both last year and the year before.

We've only just begun going through our perspective speakers' pitches, and we haven't yet begun seeking official conference sponsors. If either of those opportunities interest you, contact me and the TxSC advisory team here. We're also looking for a few local volunteers to help our registration manager get check-in done at all of our events.

Two things: (1) it's incredible how much we've grown in the last four years (note blogger #5), and (2) Huge props to Joa Jean, our patient, talented web designer who came back on this year!  Our TxSC website has never looked so good.

Recovery mode!

Tuesday, March 12, 2013

What an insane and fun time I've been having! The Texas Style Council hosted three events this past weekend, and last night I hit up the Neiman Marcus / Stylecaster / Man Repeller party with my friend Sierra. Maybe I'm getting too old for SXSW, but man, oh, man... all this fun is making me very tired! I miss my family and I miss sleep. I have my wrap-up posts in the works, but in the meantime, please enjoy these two group photos Linda's fiance took of a few of us on Saturday at The Domain:

Have you shopped at Cusp, yet? I spent an inordinate amount of time fantasy shopping on Cusp.com last week, anticipating the newly launched Cusp (contemporary) department of Neiman Marcus at The Domain this coming Wednesday. They carry some of my favorite brands, like Alice + Olivia, Splendid, and Marc Jacobs. Come out Wednesday night for the big reveal. RSVP: 512.710.1213 or via email rsvpaustin@neimanmarcus.com.

The following three events are part of the Texas Style Council March Mixers that I'm organizing:

lm2salesnails
Cocktails, Sales, and Nails! Langford Market will be offering $50 off $100 purchases, too. Nails Y'all will be showing attendees how to do ombre nails and glitter tips. This is open to female bloggers and Adored Austin readers. [RSVP]

thedomain
Saturday is our big Texas Style Council mixer event. I am thrilled to be doing it at The Domain this year (away from the madness of downtown, where parking will still be plentiful). We'll be giving each registered attendee a "Shopping Passport" which will have incentives like 30% LOFT. For every purchase made at participating stores, shoppers will get a stamp on their passport. For every stamp earned, shoppers will be entered to win an amazing prize package that includes clothes, jewelry, and a bag! Trust me, you want this.

This event is open to the public. This would be an amazing girls day out! Pick up passports at LOFT from noon- 2pm. Meet me at Neiman Marcus (in the Cusp department) from 3-5pm to learn more about our big conference/ business school/ craft camp in August. We'll shop hop from 5pm - close, wrapping the night up at Madewell where passports can be turned in and prizes can be picked up. You don't have to be a blogger to come to this.  [RSVP]

kollaboraflyer
Kollabora.com is a great resource. I've bookmarked like 100 tutorials on sewing and jewelry making and plan to upload a couple tutorials of my own. We're going to meet up at Stella Says Go (Austin most beloved shoe store) and make some cute bangles as part of the Kollabora Craft Camp. Modcloth will be there with a live "Name That Dress" contest, and Valerie, Megan, Linda, and Kirsten will be on hand to show you how to make bracelets and to talk blog shop with you. Open to bloggers, blog readers, and crafty-types. [RSVP]

Bonus event for SXSW badge holders: StyleCaster/ Neiman Marcus Cusp party on Monday, March 11th from 8-11 pm.

Austin Posh Party Invite
Poshmark is thrilled to invite fashion loving ladies and Texas Style Council attendees to a LIVE Posh Party tonight, Saturday, February 25th at Etcetera, etc at 6pm.

Poshmark is bringing together top bloggers and local influencers, shoppers and press for a chance to list great items for sale from your own closet to their app. This is a great chance for your fans and followers to buy items directly from you within the Poshmark app from anywhere in the country! Poshmark will be broadcasting the event and live Tweeting -- all of which they'd love to include you in.

Poshmark makes it easy to list and sell items directly from your closet. Just snap a photo of an item you'd like to sell on your cell phone, upload it to the Poshmark app, transform it with one of the Poshmark filters, and voila! You've created a glam covershot for your listing. Add a description and price for your item, and you're all set.

Poshmark connects you to people who’s style you adore so you can shop their closets, anytime you’d like. The community is made up of people who love to discover unique fashion, share their style inspiration, and most importantly, have fun. The theme of the party is Glitter and Gold -- pick out your best pieces featuring those qualities and get ready to sell!

For all Posh Parties, we encourage you to take pictures of the items you're going to list beforehand and have them saved on your iPhone to make it easier to list. However, you are more than welcome to bring the things you want to list during the party physically with you or just show up to enjoy good company and to learn more about Poshmark.

To attend, RSVP to rsvp@poshmark.com. This party is hosted by me (Indiana), Jenna from Style By Jenna, Lauren from Cactus Collective, and Michelle from Unchartered Style - all TxSC registered attendees!

Next Tuesday: Food, Fashion, Fitness, and Faith?

Tuesday, January 3, 2012

If your New Year's resolutions involved anything having to do with food, getting in shape, or bettering your relationship with God (I know mine did), my friend Sarah and I are going to be giving talks at the North Lamar Central Market at starting at 7pm this Tuesday that covers these things.

Sarah is the owner of Whole Heath Approach, and she's a holistic health coach here in Austin. She is a dear friend of mine and one of the funniest and sweetest women I know. Her talk is "Five Diet Myths, Busted" from 7-8 pm.

My talk is from 8-9 pm, and it's a Christian faith-based talk called "Well Woman". It tackles our perceptions of body image and how that relates to how you think God views you. I'll be sharing my own struggles with consumerism and body image and discussing how the unique struggles of a being a young, American woman butt up against the life Christian women are called to lead.

Definitely come to Sarah's talk. Since mine is a talk geared toward Christians, my part is really only for women who are Christians or are open to Christian theology (I won't be offended if you don't stay for my part).

Here's an ugly graphic that I made for it. (Never trust me with web graphics. I will let you down every time.)
bokeh copy
Don't judge this talk by the above graphic. Come out for dinner at 6pm and stay for our discussions. It should be casual, informative (Sarah's part, at least), and encouraging. It's the first time in over ten years that I've spoken in public about my faith, but I'm excited to share my story with you.

Update: We gave in and made a Facebook invite. >>>

Texas Style Council 2012

I am getting ready to enter into the busiest three months of my year if last year is any indication. Yesterday I launched and opened up registration for the 2012 Texas Style Council, and I am incredibly excited to be organizing this meet-up for the third year now. I can't believe how it's grown! We have some great bloggers coming in from all over the country as well as some amazing speakers.
The Texas Style Council differs from other blog conferences in that we focus on creating genuine connections between the attendees and we encourage our participating bloggers and brands to be the best version of of themselves, no matter how big or how small. Two days are dedicated to networking and meeting new people and brands, while one entire day is devoted to a fully staged social media symposium where bloggers and brands can learn from top tier professionals new ways to connect with each other, their readers, companies, and customers.

Our 2011 conference was praised for being "relatable, comfortable, and approachable" and it is our goal that our 2012 conference retains its "girl next door" vibe to it. We have decided not to cover topics like how to monetize and implement ads or how to approach sponsors because these topics are very well represented at other blog conferences and in online communities specific for style bloggers. Our social media symposium will be focused on creating community, using blogs as a launching pad for greater goals, increasing inspiration and creativity, using social media in innovative ways, and being the best blogger or business you can be-- no matter how big or small. We want our 2012 conference to be a place where each blogger and shop owner is inspired to create fresh online content and given new tools and connections to reach goals beyond a simple online presence. Our main focus this year is THINKING BEYOND THE BLOG (i.e. how can we use our blogs to create community, grow a brand, and achieve dreams bigger than what's on our page?).

I'm proud to announce that Kendi Skeen from Kendi Everyday will be delivering the keynote. On the wave of her giant blog success she has opened Bloom, a brick and mortar shop in McKinney, Texas. Kendi was a Texas Social Media Winner last year, was the face of Fossil's Holiday campaign using her own 30x30 meme, and topped the list of feedback for whom bloggers and brands wanted to hear more from last year.

Won't you join us? >>>

Save the date: Texas Style Council 2012

Monday, December 5, 2011

Just a quick little note to let y'all know that I'm hard at work on organizing the Texas Style Council conference, which is the third annual style blogger meet-up during SXSW this year. (Don't go to the website, though. It's a hot mess while we try to move everything from last year to a 2011 subdomain and start from scratch on a fresh, more simple redesign for the 2012 conference).

If you're a style blogger or a lifestyle blogger, you've got to come to Austin for the Texas Style Council conference. We're doing it March 9, 10, and 11th, and we're hard at work getting things under way. Those dates happen to coincide with Austin's famous SXSW, so it's an amazing time to be in town. Last year we played host to over 150 bloggers and shop owners including Jen from Jen Loves Kev, Kendi from Kendi Everyday, and James from Bleubird Vintage and tons more.
It felt a little like summer camp where we made fast friends and were sad to part ways at the end of the long weekend. This year is going to be some more of the same fun, so start planning your trip and carpools now. Registration and sponsorship opportunities will be available after January 1st, and we sold out of both in less than six weeks last year. I hope you'll make it. It's going to be great fun!

If you don't believe me, you've got to check out Nathan Russell's photos from last year.

Recap: Diya's Front Row Challenge

Saturday, November 19, 2011

Congrats to Diya! If you were able to make it out to her Marie Claire Front Row Challenge fashion show last Thursday, you already know that it was a huge success.

Because of all the time off I had to take in September and October, former intern Rachel and I hadn't seen each other since Austin Fashion Week. It was so nice catching up with her and brainstorming ways that we can take the Texas Style Council up to the next level next year. I'll miss her when she goes off to college next year! Here we are doing the obligatory step and repeat photo:
loftshow
Me: skirt: Langford Market (USA made)| necklace: Manic Trout (loan) | blouses: American Apparel | tights: Target | shoes: Shechelles via Savers | clutch: Texas Thrift
Rachel: dress: vintage

I really loved what I was wearing and I hope to recreate the look and photograph it better later this week (I also owe you recreated photos from the Austin Fashion Week Awards show now that I think about it!).

Since we did have quite excellent seats I was able to shoot a little video during the show. Enjoy:
I am dying over that gray fur snood in the eighth look. I'm also in love with the entire tenth outfit:

Diya did such a great job putting together the show. I think that LOFT can be a little challenging since it is a line that often screams "conservative teacher style" (not that there's anything wrong with that, mind you!), but Diya did a good job at showcasing the clothes in a fun and interesting way. My fingers are crossed that she wins the contest!

Thursday: You're invited!

Tuesday, November 15, 2011

If you've never been to a real, live fashion show, now is your chance! I am so proud of Austin's own Diya from In Her Stilletos for being one of four finalists in the Marie Claire's Front Row Challenge:
Join us at The Mohawk this Thursday night at 7pm for a free, fun fashion show. Fashion shows of this calliber are never free or open for me to invite as many people as I want, so I really, really hope you can make it. To RSVP email frontrowchallengeUT@hearst.com (just click that link, I've made it easy for you!) and tell them that Indiana from Adored Austin invited you! RSVP's must be in by noon on Thursday.

Congrats, Diya! I am so proud of you! This is such an amazing, exciting opportunity for you, UT, and our beloved city!

Tomorrow: Langford Market Craft Fair

Speaking of feeling crafty, what are you doing tomorrow? My friends at Langford Market are having a craft party and craft pop-up shop from 5-8 tomorrow night. Baby Jude and I will be there. Won't you join us?
As if free drinks and crafty time isn't enough to entice you, I found this in my inbox that would work for tomorrow, too:
Yep! $25 off a $50 purchase. That's pretty much like a Groupon and you know how nuts I am about Groupons! See you there? RSVP at 512.482.8500 or leave a comment here by 5:00 tonight and I'll RSVP for us all.

499 Dress Sale today!

Thursday, September 22, 2011

Hello! Things are gearing up to be a fun day today! I'm down on 2nd Street getting the space ready for our 499 Dresses benefit sale tonight. Here's a sneak peek:

499

Every dress has a story. The purple dress on the left was a handmade dress worn to prom in the 70's. The pink dress was worn by a woman when President Johnson was being sworn in.

We'll be at 2nd and Colorado from 3- 8pm today. Come by and say hi! Perhaps you'll score a new to you dress with an amazing history.

Let's meet this Thursday!

Monday, September 19, 2011

How do I not have a photo of the amazing dresses that Intern Rachel and I wore to the Austin Fashion Week awards? They were over the top and they were wonderful and they were only $5.00. We got them at the 499 Dresses benefit sale the day of the awards show, and as soon as I find my lost memory card, I'll be sure to show you how smashing we looked.

Anyway, I wanted to share something exciting with you. This week is Tribeza Style Week and on Thursday the 2nd Street District will be hosting a really fun boutique crawl from 5 pm- 8 pm. Two of my favorite shops are on 2nd Street: Plain Ivey Jane (a "Nordstrom Rack" price point and concept but it's an adorable, independent boutique) and my lovely longtime local partner Langford Market (lots of affordable, made in the USA clothing there!) and they'll both be having promotions and drinks and fun.

But even more exciting is the fact that my friend Theresa from Tess Dress and I will be hosting another 499 Dresses benefit!

To quote Theresa (because I can't say it any better!):
"This is an absolutely un-missable opportunity for anyone who loves vintage clothing. Beautiful, gently-used vintage dresses will sell for $5, $10, and $15 (bargains!), and the money raised will fund the creation of The Winding Road to Recovery, a documentary film about disabled returned veterans who have turned to cycling as a means to overcome their injuries.

At our Style Station, we will have wardrobe stylists on hand for personal fashion consultations. Sharon of hunt.gather.style, Sydney of Closet Cravings and Laurel Kinney of Trophy Boutique will show you how to integrate your treasured finds into your existing wardrobe - and how to make these special dresses your own!
And, to get that perfect fit, visit our ‘Alteration Station’ on-site for a personal fitting with Norma - of ‘Sewing by Norma’ - and arrange for alterations to personalize your new dresses even further.
Come along to the sale, buy a dress and take your own little piece of fashion history home … all while making a donation to a very worthy cause."
I'll be on hand to flip the racks with you, and Intern Rachel and I have personally selected the inventory. There's some great day dresses as well as some outrageous stuff, too.

Please come. Let's be friends in real life. Finally. I've always wanted to thrift with you!
